A diverse region spanning six counties, the North West and Border Region is home to a diverse range of FDI companies. High value manufacturing, in life sciences and engineering, along with international services, financial services and future technologies such as AI, are the key sectors in which the FDI base operates.
Galway and the West region has been continuously endorsed by global brands in Life Sciences, Software Development, Telecommunications and Gaming industries. These knowledge-intensive companies are drawn to the area due to the skilled, multi-lingual workforce and local expertise in Business, Science, Engineering and Management.
Multi-national companies employ over 14,000 staff in the Mid-West of Ireland. It is home to 115 IDA client companies with particular emphasis on the ICT, Life Sciences, Engineering and Content, Consumer and Business Services sectors. The region’s FDI base is concentrated at the National Technology Park adjoining the University of Limerick Campus, at IDA Raheen Business Park and at locations adjoining Shannon International Airport in County Clare.
With global names such as Apple, Pfizer and Amazon, the South West of Ireland, which includes Kerry, has developed into a thriving hub of Technology, Life Sciences and Business Services operations. It is home to 158 multinational companies, which employ 30,419 directly.
Considerable additionality and supports assist this region to thrive and are derived by Údarás na Gaeltachta. Údarás encourages investment in the Gaeltacht through a range of generous financial and non-financial incentives for new and existing enterprises in the Gaeltacht.
